Severance Packaging Design
For this project, I created physical props inspired by Apple TV’s show ‘Severance’. I redesign the VHS tape sleeve featured in the introduction, where the severed individuals are shown on their first day of work.

Severance
Severance is a psychological thriller series on Apple TV+ about a workplace where employees have had their memories surgically separated between work and personal life. The show's plot follows Mark Scout (Adam Scott), who leads a team of employees at Lumon Industries, and the journey they take to discover the truth about their jobs.
Retro Technology of Lumon Industries
Founded by Kier Eagan in 1865, Lumon Industries is the world’s leading biotechnology company.
Throughout the series, the Severance production team highlights a retro CRT aesthetic reminiscent of the 80s, reflecting the type of technology used by the company. This vintage vibe is also evident in the show’s promotional efforts, including a fake Twitter account for Lumon that captures this nostalgic feel in its posts. Taking this into account, I created a mock up of an extremely famous video format during this time period, the VHS.
Process
What I love most about VHS tapes is the sleeves that hold them; they’re full of character and charm. I designed my own using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to have more control over the mockup. By using smart objects, I created a modular system that makes it easy to edit each side of the VHS sleeve.
Fidelity and Final
After finalizing the design to capture visual details like the VHS logo, barcode, and Lumon branding, I added textures to the mockup to give it a sense of wear and tear. Since these sleeves weren’t made for durability, this aging effect enhances their appeal, making them a true reflection of the era they represent.
